2024 YOUNG FILMMAKERS WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Finalists Screened July 13 at Spotlight Cinemas in Columbia

After a record number of entries, the finalist short films in the South Carolina Film Commission’s 2024 YOUNG FILMMAKERS PROJECT screened at a special event on Saturday, July 13 at 2:30pm at Spotlight Cinemas Capital 8 in Columbia, SC, where this year’s winners were announced.

The program was FREE and open to the public. It included Q&A and reception with the filmmakers.

YOUNG FILMMAKERS is an annual filmmaking competition for South Carolina students in grades six to twelve. Entrants submit two-minute short films and are required to incorporate a specific prop into their two-minute short films. This year that prop was a guitar pick.

“The contest has proven to be a great thing for young South Carolina filmmakers,” said Matt Storm, Director of the South Carolina Film Commission. “It’s an opportunity to practice the craft of video storytelling, which is a major driver for all industries at this point with real career opportunities.”

“The future is bright for video storytelling in the state,” said Glenn Seale, Dean of Film, Media and Visual Arts at Trident Technical College in North Charleston, one of the contest’s main partners. “It was amazing to see what these filmmakers had cooked up.”
