WHAT ARE INDIE GRANTS?

INDIE GRANTS is a one-of-a-kind training and professional development program for independent filmmakers and other production professionals.  We fund and produce independent short films by indigenous South Carolina filmmakers, bring in top-notch department heads and other collaborators, and have Trident Technical College film students work under union crews as real-world training.

Recent collaborators include Oscar-winning DP Russell Carpenter (Titanic, Ant-Man), actress Anna Camp (Perfect Harmony, Pitch Perfect) actor AJ Bowen (You’re Next, The Sacrament), DP Peter Simonite (The Perfect Guy, 2nd Unit DP on Tree of Life), and writer Brad Land (Goat).

INDIE GRANTS shorts have been official selections of top international film festivals like Sundance, Slamdance, Austin Film Festival, Palm Springs Film Festival, LA Film Festival, Tall Grass, Stiges, Nashville Film Festival, and many more.

Gone Away cast and crew gather around Sarah Jones' camera cart. Sarah was a TTC alum and beloved member of the South Carolina production family.

All funded filmmakers are required to use Trident Technical College film students in their crews.  As a technical college, TTC focuses on the technical aspects of production, consistently feeding Camera Assistants, Grips, Electricians and other crew into the professional production community.  The opportunity to work under established professionals is essential to the training of TTC students, and also serves as networking and bridge to employment.

Other resources provided to INDIE GRANTS filmmakers throughout the process include equipment, mentoring, professional script consulting, professional crew calls, collaborative critiques, and film festival consulting.

Accompanying the INDIE GRANTS program is a series of production training workshops from the South Carolina Film Commission, on topics such as Script Supervising, Casting, Scriptwriting, Aerial Lift (Condor) Certification, DSLR Cinematography, Digital Effects & Motion Graphics, MovieMagic, Production Design, and more.

Programs also include the South Carolina Young Filmmakers Project, a high school filmmaker competition, and independent film screening events through-out the year.
